After Care Instructions

  • keep the second skin bandage on for 4 days. You can shower with the bandage on, just be cautious when you clean around the edges.

  • It is normal for liquid to build up under the bandage. This is a mixture of blood, plasma and ink. It will make your tattoo look blurry during the 4 days but don’t worry it will wash clean.

  • to remove the bandage start by washing your hands with antibacterial soap.  Grab a corner or edge of the bandage and stretch it away from itself to help break the tension.

  • with your clean hands gently wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap in a gentle circular motion to remove all of the blood/plasma/excess ink. Always wash the tattoo with your fingers, never a cloth or anything like a loofah or scrub brush -this can damage the tattoo

  • pat your tattoo dry with clean paper towel or allow it to air dry. It is important that you dry this way throughout the 2 week healing process as cloth towels can hold bacteria.

  • when your tattoo is dry apply a thin layer of lotion. It needs to be fragrance, perfume and dye free (these can contain harsh chemicals). Some examples could be Glaxal base cream, aveeno unscented, lubriderm unscented, or coconut oil.

-it is important to only have a thin layer, too much lotion and it can clog your pores and trap bacteria

  • repeat the wash instructions daily or anytime that the tattoo comes into contact with something that can contain bacteria. It’s very important to remember that your tattoo is an open wound. You want it stay clean to avoid infection. Make sure to keep it away from your fur babies and to wear clean clothes. If it gets dirty do another gentle wash as listed above.

  • for 2 weeks NO:

    • Baths, hot tubs, saunas, swimming, soaking it in any water (showers are OK - be careful not to get water under the bandage) or going to the gym (yes, yes I KNOW… but rest days are important too!)

    • Avoid alcohol while your tattoo is healing, it can affect how well the tattoo heals.

    • Avoid direct sunlight and wear sunscreen to protect the tattoo once it’s healed.

    • Do not itch or pick at the tattoo. Let the skin fall off naturally when it is ready. If it comes off too soon you can pull pigment out of the dermis and leave blank spots in the tattoo (touch ups like this will be at your expense)

  • stay hydrated and eat nutritious meals to give your body the best chance to heal your new tattoo! You’ve invested in yourself with your new artwork so use these two weeks for the best healing possible!
